Asus has finally announced the “Eee Pad Transformer Prime” now that Nvidia has unveiled a major new products, chip Tegra 3, it is the first to adopt. The new tablet hybrid complete its predecessor, not replace, offering an evolution of its main features.
A range soon as Ice Cream Sandwich
The new “Eee Pad” will actually be launched Android 3.2 Honeycomb, the same version as its predecessor, but both models will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich early 2012 and will remain available in parallel.
The “Transforming Prime” so put on a technical distinction, not a planned obsolescence of its predecessor.
Technical improved
The “Transforming Prime” stands out to start by taking the aesthetic of Zenbooks with a brushed aluminum shell with great finesse, which measures only 8.3 mm thick and 586 g (against respectively 13.0 and 680 g). Autonomy is still up in the fifth through the heart of the Tegra SoC 3, the famous Companion, with which it claims a battery life of 12 hours.
The new tablet features a touch screen always WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels) 10.1-inch (25.4 cm), based on a new slab “Super IPS +” coated glass Corning Gorilla Glass, resistant to scratches and traces of fingers. It boasts viewing angles of 178 °, characteristic of the IPS process, but above a maximum brightness of 600 cd / m², enough to offset the glare of its bright surface outdoors.
This screen is surmounted by a forehead sensor for a definition unchanged 1.2 million pixels, but we go back to a backlit CMOS sensor combined with a light lens (f2, 4) and an LED flash, photographing to 8 million pixels (cons 5) and filming in 1080p.
The new “Eee Pad” home so the new Nvidia Tegra SoC 3, making it the first quad-shelf heart of the market. This is only to 1 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory, and found the location microSDHC (up to 32GB), Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 2.1 legacy, GPS and a micro HDMI output.
Turn into laptop
The new “Transformer” inherits as its name indicates the approach of its predecessor convertible with a new docking station 540 g, housing a keyboard, a touchpad, the connectivity but also and especially an extra battery, with full autonomy in 18 hours!
Sold as an option at a price unchanged from $ 150, the dock connector enriches the tablet of a conventional USB 2.0 port and an SD card reader. Due to the different thickness of the two models, docking stations are unfortunately not interchangeable.
