HP has finally decided: the U.S. group decided to keep WebOS, its OS for mobile devices, despite the premature abandonment of its TouchPad tablet in August. After the branch PC, Meg Whitman has taken a new decision against the grain of his predecessor, Leo Apotheker, choosing to keep WebOS. However WebOS will surely be transferred to another division, the contours for the time not yet determined.
This is not the only announcement that the new CEO of HP has taken since last night WebOS is free and opens to the open source community. Meg Whitman has justified this choice by stating that "HP wants to unleash the creativity of the community to create a new generation of applications and devices. Developers, partners, engineers from HP and other manufacturers can help to bring about improvements and new versions on the market. "HP will continue in parallel to support technically the mobile OS, in order to "make improvements and new versions." It's also a way not to condemn to oblivion WebOS.
If HP is counting on Windows 8 to equip its shelves in 2012, WebOS should review the day of an HP device stamped in 2013. In contrast, smartphones do not seem to be the priority.
